The Ministerial Meeting on Infrastructure to be held between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries is scheduled for June 5 at the Venetian Macao’s Convention & Exhibition Centre. It takes place on the sidelines of the 6th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum.

The Ministerial Meeting is organised by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), with the support of the China International Contractors Association and Macao Economic Services.

Participants in the meeting will analyse the opportunities, challenges and co-operation models for the infrastructure sector within what China has dubbed the “One Belt, One Road” strategy.

Topics to be discussed include: China’s investment policies for construction of infrastructure in overseas markets, particularly in Portuguese-speaking Countries; Lusophone countries’ domestic policies and investment strategies for the infrastructure sector; funding for construction of infrastructure; and arrangements and access to funding from China Development Bank in order to further infrastructure development.

There will also be a brief presentation about the China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Co-operation and Development Fund, as well as an exchange session among participants.

The meeting is an opportunity to highlight the role of Macao as a service platform for economic and trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

The two sides intend to take advantage of this co-operation platform, and the synergies that might be created via the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. The aim is to deepen collaboration in the construction and development of infrastructure, as well as to strengthen economic co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

At the same time, this activity aims to support the establishment of a service platform for economic and trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, contributing to the adequate diversification of Macao’s economy and promoting economic benefits to both sides.

The Ministerial Meeting is one of the main activities in this year’s activities programme for the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao.

Several guests have been invited to take part in the Ministerial Meeting. They include: participants in the Transportation and Communication Infrastructure Conference for Portuguese-speaking Countries hosted by the Training Centre of Forum Macao; business people from Mainland China and Macao; members from several chambers of commerce; representatives from associations of engineers, contractors and real estate professionals; and representatives from financial institutions.
